Your gear is your Life Support Equipment

Regular maintenance of your Total Diving System is very important in keeping it performing at its best.  After all, when you’re underwater taking photos of a turtle on a fabulous reef, or heading through the cargo bay of a huge shipwreck, you need to know that your gear is in top-shape, and that you can depend on it.

At each of Mac’s in-house Service Centers, we have a staff of professional SCUBA Technicians that are trained regularly by the manufacturer’s schools, and monitored closely.  We also have the latest specialty tools and advanced electronic systems to ensure that you receive the highest quality, most thorough, guaranteed service around.

Our service centers have the ability to work on most all manufacturers of SCUBA equipment.

Here is a list of the brands included:

  • ScubaPro

  • Tusa (Tabata)

  • ScubaMax

  • Zeagle

  • AquaLung (U.S. Divers)

  • Apeks

  • Sherwood

  • DiveRite

If you are not able to get to one of our three Mac’s locations,  you can simply send us the equipment that you would like serviced.  We will contact you as soon as it has arrived and a pre-inspection has been completed to discuss what service is needed.  Once we have the go ahead from you, a thorough inspection and repair will be performed.  Your equipment will be mailed back to you after you receive complete explanation of the services that were provided by Mac's technicians.

We service divers all across the country and we strive to be your equipment Service Specialists.

  •     Regardless of amount of use your equipment has had in the past year, it is highly recommended that you have it serviced once a year.  Please note that most manufacturers will void the warranty if the equipment is not serviced annually.

  •     This is a full service of your entire Regulator System.

Includes

  • Regulator System is pre-inspected, disassembled, and cleaned in a special ultrasonic cleaner.

  • All hoses are cleaned and o-rings replaced.

  • Computer or Gauge swivel is cleaned, o-rings replaced and lubricated.

  • The regulator stages are inspected and reassembled with new factory parts kits.

  • All stages are set to manufacturer’s specifications.

  • Regulator system is water-tested for leaks.

Service sleeve is installed to one of the hoses to remind you when it was serviced and when it is due again.

Occasionally, only the first-stage needs attention.  We will inspect the total system, recommend the type of service that is needed and perform the appropriate task.

Occasionally, only the second-stage (primary or alternate) needs attention.  We will inspect the total system, recommend the type of service that is needed and perform the appropriate task.

This is recommended if your system has not been used in several months to ensure that all components function properly.

Includes

  • Your Regulator and BC system is inspected for compatibility.

  • System is attached to a cylinder, and pressure tested.

  • Inspect for leaks, worn hoses, mouthpieces, cracks, and other abnormalities.

  • The performances of the 1st and 2nd stages are tested with special gauges.

  • Regulator and BC are then water-tested for leaks.

**If any part of your system needs further service, the price of the safety test is applied to your service price!

Hoses dry out, get brittle, and leak or burst with age.  It is recommended that they be replaced regularly.  In addition, some of our divers prefer a high visibility yellow colored hose for their octopus instead of the standard black hose.  Lastly, different lengths are available if your hoses are too long or short.

We can help you with any of these situations.

  •

High and Low Pressure hoses should have stress-sleeves installed where they are attached to the first stage.  These strengthen the hoses and prevent them from splitting, leaking, or bursting.  These protectors are available in different colors, so you can personalize your system by coordinating your regulator with the colors of the rest of your gear!

Hoses can be either covered or wrapped in a protective nylon sleeve from end-to-end.  These protect the hoses from UV, as well as cuts and scrapes.  These wraps are available in different colors, so you can personalize your system by coordinating your regulator with the colors of the rest of your gear!

  •  This is highly recommended to be done every year, regardless of usage.  It is VERY important to perform this annually to keep the manufacturers warranty valid.  If you skip a year, most companies will void your warranty!

  • This is a full service of your entire BC System.

Includes

  • The BC is pre-inspected, and then the inflator, or integrated octopus/inflator, all air overpressure dumps, and shoulder dump assemblies are disassembled, and cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner.

  • All appropriate parts are inspected and reassembled with new factory parts kits.

  • All mechanisms are re-set to factory specifications.

  • The entire BC System is water-tested for leaks.

  • Service sleeve is installed to the corrugated hose to remind you when it was serviced and when it’s due again.

Leaks in air-cell (bladder or bladder-less) are inspected and determined if able to be sealed.

The cylinder band can be replaced with a stainless steel cinch-style strap assembly.  This is by far one of the most effective, and diver-friendly straps that will practically eliminate “losing your tank”.

If the corrugated BC hose is dried and brittle, has a leak, or is too long or short, it can be replaced with a new one.

Streamlining your system means customizing and personalizing it to fit you better.  This includes taking all of the items that you attach to yourself as you dive, and evaluating the way you carry them all.  Then, we will suggest how to get rid of the “clutter and dangling stuff”, tailor your system to your own needs, and make it much more diver-friendly.

Our customers tell us that after they have streamlined their gear, they:

  • Are much, much more comfortable.

  • Are safer, because they have fewer things that can tangle them around.

  • Can actually find attached gear, quickly and consistently.

  • Have longer bottom times because of less drag resulting in improved air-consumption.

  • By removing excess gadgets, they are lighter in the water.  This is also a benefit when packing for airline travel.

  • The safety of you and the person filling your cylinder depends on regular inspection of the air system.

  • This service extends the life of your cylinder.

  • The cylinder needs to be visually inspected annually to keep within DOT/CTC regulations.

Includes

  • The exterior of cylinder is inspected for imperfections.

  • The interior of cylinder is inspected for imperfections.

  • The cylinder neck threads are cleaned with neck brushes.

  • The neck o-ring groove is scoured and re-grooved.

  • The neck threads are electronically inspected using Visual Plus inspection unit (if the cylinder is aluminum).

  • The neck threads are visually inspecting with a special thread magnifier.

  • The cylinder valve is inspected for abnormalities, dip-tube is tightened, and both the face and neck o-rings are replaced.

  • If valve cap is used, 2 face o-rings are put on the cap string for easy replacement when needed,

  • The valve is reattached to the cylinder.

  • New inspection stickers are attached to the cylinder.

  • The cylinder is re-filled and water-tested.

  • This service is performed when the cylinder needs VIP, and the valve is either difficult to turn, corroded, or other complications.

Includes the above VIP cylinder service, plus:

  • The cylinder valve is pre-inspected, disassembled and cleaned in a special ultrasonic cleaner.

  • The valve is reassembled, including replacement of the burst disk, valve seat, all o-rings and backup rings.

  • The valve is reattached to the cylinder.

  • The cylinder is re-filled and water-tested.

  • This service is performed when the five-year hydro test period has expired, or when the cylinder has been tumbled to remove severe internal corrosion.

  • The cylinder needs to be hydrostatically tested every five years to keep within DOT/CTC regulations.

  • The safety of you and the person filling your cylinder depends on regular inspection of the air system.

  • This service extends the life of your cylinder.

Includes the above VIP Deluxe service, plus:

  • The cylinder is separated from the valve, and a hydrostatic test is performed.  This test is a water pressure test, which inspects the strength of the physical structure of the cylinder.   If the test is failed, the cylinder is removed from service, and cannot be filled again.

  • All of our Hydro services include a valve service.

  • If the cylinder is intended for NITROX, it, and the valve are Oxygen Cleaned.  This service is required to be performed, even if the cylinder and valve are previously NITROX-ready, because the hydro-process voids the oxygen rating on the system.  (see below for the Oxygen Cleaning service description)

  • The valve is then reattached to the cylinder.

  • Cylinder VIP service is performed.

·

  •    This service in needed if the cylinder is to be filled with any enriched oxygen gases.  (over 21% oxygen)

Includes

  • The valve is removed, and the cylinder is evaluated for compatibility for Oxygen Service.

  • The cylinder is tumbled, or brushed in preparation for cleaning, if necessary.

  • The cylinder is then rolled with a special oxygen cleaning solution, rinsed, and dried.

  • The valve is disassembled, cleaned in a special ultrasonic cleaner, and all appropriate parts are soaked in a special oxygen cleaning solution, rinsed, and dried.

  • The valve parts are inspected, and reassembled, using special oxygen compatible o-rings, seals, and lubricants.

  • The valve is reattached to the cylinder.

  • New inspection stickers, and a NITROX label/band, are attached to the cylinder.

  • The cylinder is refilled with NITROX, analyzed, and logged.
